Rhopalomeris carnifex

Often called the "Candy Corn" or "Strawberry" millipede, is a small 1 inch, colorful Southeast Asian species known for its bright yellow/red banding and ability to roll into a ball. These exotic, detritivorous pets require specifically high-humidity environments with rotting wood and leaf litter.

Captive Bred

  • Habitat: Tropical, requiring high humidity and rich, rotting wood substrate, avoiding coco fiber.
  • Diet: Feed on decaying plant matter, wood, leaf mulch and moss. Their diet should consist of rotting hardwood, rotting hardwood leaves, live lichens and live mosses. (we sell live mosses, rotting maple wood & dried oak leaves) They do not eat any fruits, veggies or other sources of protein.
  • The best hardwoods to feed to candy corn millipedes include:
    • Oak (leaves and wood are often considered the best choice)
    • Maple
    • Beech
    • Birch
    • Alder
    • Poplar
    • Ash
    • Elm
    • Sycamore
    • Hickory
    • Fruit woods (such as from an apple tree)
    Key Feeding Guidelines:
    • Decay Level: The wood should be in advanced stages of decay, specifically white wood that is soft, crumbly, and easily broken apart by hand.
    • Avoid Softwoods: Never use pine, cedar, or spruce, as their resins are toxic.
    • Preparation: Always sterilize collected wood (e.g., by baking or pouring boiling water over it) to remove pests.
